About five and a half years ago, I was about to walk into the Kroger in Charlottesville to do some grocery shopping when I got a call from my sister Valerie.
This was odd, considering she and her husband lived in Tanzania at the time.
Did you know that by imagining a trip and planning it in your head you can lower your stress level and increase your happiness? You don't even have to go, it's simply the possibility of it that can make you happier
When you're waiting for the train to leave, you see a lot of people walking by. Some are rushing, some meandering, many on phones or talking to the person next to them.
And then there are those people who walk by with a grin on their face. No phone, no music, no other people. Just them and their thoughts. And you can't help but smile too, wondering what it is that's making them so happy.
Not necessarily something that comes to mind when you think Switzerland.
Chocolate, yup. Cheese, sure. But pretzels? Not so much.
But they are delicious.
They are the coolest little kids I know, and I miss them like crazy.
Skype remains on my list of one of the best inventions ever, but "visiting" on the computer is just not the same.
There is nothing in this world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humor.
- Charles Dickens
Few things are more fun than when you are with friends and something becomes so hilarious that your laughter gradually escalates from a quiet chuckle to a hearty laugh to an all-out hysteria until finally you're tearing up, you can barely breathe, and everyone involved is shaking in silent laughter.
Usually it is something simple, like brainstorming cat names or singing along to Rent, and an outsider would probably think you're insane.
But you know. That was funny.
Three months ago I brought home two crazy little kittens.
Some friends (you know who you are) joked that it was only a matter of time before I turned into one of those crazy cat ladies. The ones who dress their cats up in sweaters and throw them birthday parties.
Thankfully, I'm pretty sure that I have avoided that :)
I have very little trivia knowledge.
I'm awful at telling you who sang the top song of 1998, what a group of frogs is called, anything having to do with sports that are not American football, or the name of the plastic covering at the end of a shoelace.
But I love going to pub quiz.
OK, I've been pretty bad about blogging since I've been back from summer break at home.
Three months and only 2 posts. Sad.
To try and get myself back into better blogging habits I am going to have a whole week of simple Sundays.
Seven days of posting about the little things in life that make me smile :)
